Our High Priest

I think you drank a bunch of silly sauce this morning. No, I'm serious. You're over here. Well, good morning. Good morning. We're at Hebrews chapter seven that we're going to be looking at versus what did I say? Versus 11 versus 11 through 19, 711 through 19. We're going to talk about why in the world did Jesus even have to? How can how can Jesus be of the word about his attack?

All right, let's pray. You want to pray or you want me to pray? Lord, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word. Thank you for time together. Thank you for giving us instruction. Lord, we pray that your spirit would illuminate our eyes, teach our minds, give us hope in Jesus name. Amen. All right. Hebrews chapter seven, beginning at verse 11. Deborah, why don't you read 11 through How would we do this? You can read 11 through 13. I'll read 14 through 17, and then you can read 18 and 19. Sound good? OK. All right. Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical. Mm hmm. Levitical priesthood, for under it the people received the law.
What further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek and not be called according to the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed of necessity there is also a change of the law. For he of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe from which no man has officiated at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, There arises another priest who has come not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. For he testifies, You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek. For on the one hand, there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness. For the law made nothing perfect.
On the other hand, there is bringing in of a better hope through which we draw near to God. Okay, so we got to ask ourselves our three questions. A, what is this about? B, what's the Best verse to summarize. And see what are we called to do. Alright, so A, what is this biggity biggity biggity biggity biggity about?
Jesus becoming a priest. Alright, Jesus becomes a priest. Good. Birth of a priest. Yeah, so, but hold on. I thought in the book of Exodus and Leviticus that it talked about the priests having to be Levites, sons of Aaron. But what tribe is Jesus from? Judah. So how can he be a priest if he's not from Levi but from Judah? Is it better to have a Levite priest or a God's son priest? Oh, boom, shakalaka. All right. So is it better to have a Levite priest or a God's son priest?
Interestingly, God had given all the stuff about the priesthood and stuff like that through Aaron. And then he breaks it himself. But then, well, remember before this, he didn't really break it because there was a Melchizedek who Abraham you know, went to and gave his tithe to.
But then hundreds of years after Moses gave his law, we go to the book of Psalms and God makes a promise in Psalm 110 that he would bring up a Messiah and that that Messiah would be a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. So just the chronology, what was written first, Exodus or Psalm 110? Exodus. Yeah, that was written first. So why would God later write about somebody becoming a priest in the order of Melchizedek?
Because Melchizedek has already been chosen as a priest. Yeah, and so there's going to eventually what's going to happen to the Aaronic priesthood, the priesthood of Aaron? It's going to fall away. Yeah, it's going to fall away. And did you notice what it said about that here? How did it describe the Priesthood of Aaron. Did you notice what it said in verse 18?
On the other hand, there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness. Unprofitable and weak. Unprofitable and weak, verse 19, for the law made nothing perfect. So there's it's unprofitable, it's weak, made nothing perfect. Contrast that with.
Jesus, there is right on the other hand, the second part of 19, on the other hand, there is the bringing of a better hope through which we draw near to God. What's the better hope by which we draw near to God? He's our high priest forever. Yeah, that Jesus is our high priest forever. A better priesthood, a better sacrifice, a better reconciliation, a better hope, more powerful, more efficacious, right? It's efficacious. I mean, it works, right? Yeah.
And so God's given us Jesus, who laid down his own life for us. He's both priest and sacrifice. He was the lamb of God without spot or blemish. So Jesus lays down his life as our high priest and goes in behind the veil. It goes into the heavenly tabernacle with better sacrifices and a better ministry and a better priesthood. So. Do we need to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem? No. Why not? Because Jesus is our high priest forever.
Good job girl. You're so smart. You're way smarter than I was. Even when I was like 26, you were way smarter than I was. All right. What do you think is the best verse to summarize all of this? What would you underline in your Bible? 17. Oh, okay. So you have 17 underlined. I have verse 19 underlined, but maybe somebody else would underline something else. That's fine.
What do you think of this calling you to do how does this teach you the covenant? What is this calling you to do? What do you think? Sound like a broken car To accept Jesus as your high priest Yeah. Yeah. Except Jesus as your high priest, trust in Jesus as your high priest. Don't go back to the Old Testament law, which was weak and unprofitable and not able to make anything perfect. But instead. What's the hope that we have that we can cling on to? Jesus. Jesus can. Is he unprofitable? He's profitable is he weak. Nope. What is he if he's not weak? He's strong strong is he Imperfect. No, he's perfect.
I Should give us a lot of hope huh? Yeah, you want to pray for us? Okay Lord, thank you for this day. Please let us accept Jesus as our high priest and protect us as we go about our day.
