Hold Firm to Your Faith

We are at Hebrews chapter 3 verses 7 through 15 and Deborah Deborah had a little bit of wine to have her baby brother with us. So Judah's with us today So if he starts crying, we'll have to excuse him from coffee and devotions. Maybe he'll drink some coffee this morning.
What do you think? Nope. All right. Well today we're gonna talk about not hardening our hearts, but believing in Jesus. So I'm gonna have some coffee. We'll pray. I'm getting you guys' words sound good? Okay. Well, that was a good sneeze. Went down the wrong pipe there. Alright. Lord, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word and for the blessing it is to get to spend time together. Please, Lord, bless us as we read. Let us love you and follow in your ways. In Jesus' name. Amen. Alright. Hebrews chapter 3, verses 7 through 15.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness. where your fathers tested me, tried me, and saw my works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation and said, They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways. I swore in my wrath, they shall not enter my rest.
Beware, brethren! Lest there be any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end. While it is said today, If you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."
Well, we have to ask ourselves, A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize? And C, what are we called to do? Good. So A, what is this about? So what do you think this is about? Being faithful. Good. Yeah, so the Holy Spirit wrote these things. When did he write them? In Psalm 95, verses 7 through 11. And interestingly, that passage is being used of the people of Israel. And it's much later on in history. But it's saying, don't be like your fathers were. They tested God for 40 years. When did they test God for 40 years? Yeah, when they were wondering where? In the wilderness, that's right. So when they were wandering in the wilderness.
And so he says, don't have an evil heart of unbelief departing from the living God. And you and you summarize that as what? Being faithful. That's right. And how how do we encourage each other to be faithful? To. Okay, give them encouragement, talk to them, good, yeah, so that's actually why I have verse 13 underlined. But exhort one another daily while it is called today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Right, we exhort each other, we remind each other what the truth is. Because we don't want to be deceived and give up on that God who has loved us and saved us and cared for us, right? And so, for we have become partakers of Christ, if what? If we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end. Did the people of God believe when they came out of Egypt?
Yeah, some of them were pretty scared of the Red Sea, right? What about when they went to Mount Sinai? They were scared. They were scared? But did it seem like they were believing too? Yeah. Yeah? And then what did they make? A calf. A calf. And then they seemed to repent and then they rebelled.
Yeah, but we're supposed to hold fast the confidence that we had in the beginning. So we need to exhort one another. We need to encourage one another not to go in that sin, but to hold firm to Jesus. Just a side note, rabbit trail here. Isn't it interesting that Psalm 95 is written hundreds of years later by a human person and yet, therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, Holy Spirit's somehow the one who's the originator, the ultimate author of all of the writings. Okay, so let's go ahead and go to C Calling. What are we called to do?
Okay, be faithful and encourage others to be faithful good. I love it. All right, we can exhort one another hold firm Remember your confession Don't test your father your God like your fathers did in the rebellion Hold firm don't give up Keep clinging to Jesus Is that good All right. You want to pray or do you want me to pray? Well, you gotta choose. Because Judah ain't gonna pray, he's just gonna chew his hands. I can pray? Okay.
Lord, we thank you so much for giving us Jesus Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith, our high priest with a greater sacrifice and a greater ministry than Moses. Lord, we pray that you would please help us. We are not by ourselves better than those who wandered in the wilderness. So we plead with you that your Holy Spirit would please help us. Give us strength, Lord, while it's today. We pray in Jesus' name, amen. Well, may the Lord bless you as you seek to hold firm to the confession you first embraced. And we'll talk to you next time.
