Aaron and Sons

Well, good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This is where every day you and I, well, every weekday we get together. We have a little bit of coffee. No, nothing. Well, we don't have anything. We don't have anything this morning. We have a little bit of something to drink typically. And we read the Bible. It's not the morning. Yeah, it is. It's before noon. It's about lunchtime. It's before lunch. We get a little bit of coffee.
We get into God's word and we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2023, Lord willing, we'll make it through. Genesis. Numbers. Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy and. Hebrews, that's right. Numbers, Deuteronomy and Hebrews. Are you ready to pray? Lord, we thank you so much for your word. We pray that you would please help us to understand it. Please apply it to our lives in Jesus's name. Amen. OK. Numbers chapter three, the first four verses. You think you're going to be able to help me with this? No. No. OK. Now these are the records of Aaron and Moses when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.
And these are the names of the sons of Aaron, Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he's consecrated to minister. Keep your mouth out of that. to it. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests whom he consecrated to minister as priests.
Nadab and Abihu had died before the Lord when they offered profane fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. So Eliezer and Ithamar ministered as priests in the presence of Aaron their father so you have God and he spoke he's speaking to Moses and Moses and Aaron, that's right And the special what's the special place that God has for Aaron? What job did he anoint him for? To be a priest that's right to be the priest and Aaron has four boys.
Do you remember any of their names? No, not Levi so Aaron is of the tribe of Levi of the Kohathites But this is a different so he's got four boys. One is Nadab You got Nadab and Abihu. What happened to Nadab and Abihu in the wilderness? They were killed by who By the Lord, that's right. They brought strange fire into the tabernacle. And so they died and they died without having any what?
They didn't have any children so that leaves two more boys to be a priest and what? Boys Well, no, Eleazar and Ithamar are... No, no, that's Eli's sons. Yeah, not not not Aaron's other leave Eli's on sin for Samuel, but you're right that there were priests who did that too. And so they had no children. So Eliezer and Itamar ministered as priests in the presence of Aaron, their father.
So Aaron is the high priest. But they're also their priests. Yeah, a priest. Well, we don't call them low priests. We just call them priests. Right. So they would help their daddy in the work in the tabernacle, making all the sacrifices and stuff. All right.
So do we have priests today? What do you mean, kind of? That there are different names. Like, elders are like high priests, and like, and, and the deacons are like leewights, and the members are like helpers. Hmm. Now that's interesting, but I don't think it's exactly right. You know who our high priest is now? It's not the elders. It's Jesus Christ himself. Right? That's what we find out in Hebrews chapter 9 and 10. Guess why we're doing the book of Hebrews after Deuteronomy? Because the Hebrews tells us it, right?
So Jesus is the high priest. So who are the other priests then? Oh no, God's the one being worshipped. Guess who's a priest? All of us. That's right, we're all priests. A nation of priesthood, right? That's what God came to do. Right? So Jesus is our high priest, but he makes us into a nation, a kingdom of priests. Jesus is the highest priest you'll ever get. And he's worshipping God. And boy, do you have to worship Jesus and God. Well, interestingly, when Jesus is the high priest, he goes into the tabernacle in heaven.
And do you know what's in the holy of holies in in the tabernacle here? You have the ark and on the ark. That's almost like the throne of God. So guess who sits on on the mercy seat? God, I guess what the Book of Hebrews says. Jesus. Jesus went to the whole into the holy place and there. He stays. Nobody stays in the holy place other than God himself. So we worship Jesus.
Right? Because he is one with the Father. He's like, like, teensy bit. No, he's not a little bit lower at all. He's like the same. Same in substance, power, and glory. He's the same, and God's like, he's the father. God's the father. And he's the son. And Jesus is a son, right? So we don't believe in that Jesus is lower. Jesus is just a mount.
Well, they're the same in power and glory. Of the same substance, homo usios. I didn't think we were going to talk about the Trinity today, but that's good, right? So so OK, so we have. We are a nation of priests. Jesus is our high priest and we get to worship God. Yeah. All right. You ready to pray? Okay.
Lord, we thank you so much that even in the Old Testament, in this covenant under Moses, that you gave types and shadows to point us to Jesus. Lord, we pray that we would worship you in spirit and in truth. We pray that we would follow after you and love you all of our lives. In Jesus's name. Amen. All right. You want to say bye? Bye.
