Yearly Reminder of Redemption

Hey, hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we're looking at Numbers chapter 28, verses 16 through 25. We're going to be looking at the Passover and the Feast of Weeks. Let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll get into God's word. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for the blessing it is to get to come to your word. Lord, we pray that your Holy Spirit would please help us to understand it. We pray that you would teach us to rejoice in how good you have been to us in Jesus's name. Amen. Let me grab my Bible here. We're going to start by reading God's word, and then we'll ask ourselves our ABCs. So let's read God's word together. Numbers 28, beginning at verse 16.
On the first day of the month is the Passover of the Lord. On the fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover of the Lord. And on the fifteenth day of this month is the Feast. Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days. On the first day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work.
And you shall present an offering made by fire as a burnt offering to the LORD, two young bulls, one ram, and seven lambs in the first year. Be sure they are without blemish. Their grain offering shall be a fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah you shall offer for a bull, and two-tenths for a ram. You shall offer one-tenth of an ephah for each of the seven lambs. Also, one goat as a sin offering to make atonement for you.
You shall offer these besides the burnt offering of the morning, which is for a regular burnt offering. In this manner, you shall offer the food of the offering made by fire daily for seven days as a sweet aroma to Jehovah. It shall be offered beside the regular burnt offering and its drink offering. And on the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work." Well, we need to ask ourselves our three questions. A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what are we called to do? So what does Numbers chapter 26, 16 through 25 teach?
On the first day of the year, On the 14th day of the first month of the year was the month of Abib and you started it with the Passover. festival, this remembrance that God had redeemed them out of Egypt, that the Lord himself had told them to slaughter a lamb, to have its blood put on the doorposts and on the lentils of their house.
And he was going to strike all the firstborn of Egypt. But for those who had believed and acted in accordance with their belief and they had the blood of the lamb on their households, the angel of death passed over their house. And that was the straw that broke the camel's back that made the Pharaoh say, go ahead and leave. The Lord had redeemed them.
The next day they start the festival of unleavened bread, right? This is the 15th day of Abib. For seven days after that, all the males of Israel have to go to the tabernacle or later to the temple, Deuteronomy chapter 16. We're going to get into that in a little bit. It's going to describe that.
But the point is that they're all going to go and they're going to remember every year at the beginning of the year that God is the one who has redeemed them. That's the Lord who will provide for them. That's the Lord who is their King. That is the Lord who is their God.
And so what is this about? This is about the festival of the Passover and then immediately following that, the festival weeks. By the time you get to Jesus's time, right, these two festivals are basically slammed together. Right. And so this is what the Lord is doing. This is the festival of Passover and the festival of unleavened bread. So it's also at this time.
Also, at this time that our Lord Jesus Christ died, we're going to get that this in sea calling. But what is this about festival of Passover and of weeks? I would underline verses 16 and 17 as be the best versus 16 and 17 to the last sea calling. What are we called to do? How does this show us Christ? Where is a covenant bridge or connection? Well, this is the time in which God chose for Jesus to lay down his life. to be the new Passover lamb, to be the one who would redeem us from sin and death, from God's wrath himself. God saved us by providing for us Jesus, our Passover lamb.
So every time you partake of the Lord's Supper, I pray that you are encouraged in your heart that your Redeemer lives, that your God loves you, that he has made a way for us to be right with him. And I pray that you have a peace that surpasses all understanding as you look to Jesus and you see the redemption you have in him. Let's pray. Father, we trust in you year in and year out.
We rejoice. because you have given us the lamb who was slain. You have redeemed us from the sin and the wages of sin that we deserve. Lord, you have canceled out the debt and you have given us freedom. Lord, we pray that we would walk in that freedom.
We pray that we would love you and be thankful to you year in and year out. because you have given us your lamb, Jesus Christ, our savior. In his name we pray. Amen. Well, may the Lord bless you.
