We Are God's Special People

Good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions this morning. We don't. We don't have coffee. Oh, I have warm coffee. It's hot. It's warm. Oh, I guess we get coffee this morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions. We're at Deuteronomy chapter 26. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, drink it. Oh, my coffee. It's like I have a Deuteronomy 26. Let's have some coffee. We'll pray and get into God's word. Man, I can't believe you were about to drink all my good stuff. No, let's pray. You want to pray or you want me to pray? Me? OK. Lord, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for the blessing of being able to read your word. Please help us to understand it in Jesus's name. Amen.
Here, I'm going to move a few things here so I can get my Bible. I'll put that, move that. And we're at Deuteronomy, chapter 26, beginning at verse 16. Do you want to put on your new special glasses? OK, you can put them on. All right, so 16 through 19, it's only three verses today, or four verses.
This day, the Lord your God command you to observe these statutes and judgments. Therefore, you shall be careful to observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. Today, you have proclaimed the Lord to be your God. and that you will walk in his ways, and keep his statutes, his commandments, and his judgments, and that you will obey his voice. Also today the Lord has proclaimed you to be his special people, just as He promised you, that you should keep all His commandments, and that He will set you high above all nations, which He has made in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to the Lord your God and Jesus.
Not Jesus, just as he has spoken. As he has spoken. Good. So you will be a holy nation or holy people to the Lord your God, just as he has spoken. All right. Can you sit up all the way? Yeah. So what do you think this is a about? Why to be like God? Oh, try to be like God. Hmm.
Can you scoot your butt this way? There you go. All right. So, yeah. So we got we got commands to follow and things like that. This is this is saying about Israel, right? Yeah. But notice, what does he say about them? So, yeah, they've got things to do. But what does he say about them? What is the Lord proclaimed? Are they junk? Are they a bunch of like trashy people? Do you remember what he said they were? Hmm. So verse 18, this is what I would say is the is the best verse to summarize this.
Also, today, the Lord has proclaimed you to be his special people. just as he promised you that you should keep all his commandments. And then does he say he's going to bring them low? Yeah, he's going to set them high above all the nations he has made. So in phrase and honor in their name, right, that you may be a holy people to God, just as he has spoken.
God did it. You remember, God promised Abraham. Did he say he was going to just be a little wimpy nation? Yeah, he was going to bless all nations through him, wouldn't he? Yep. And has God done it? Yeah, has he made him a special people? Mm hmm. So what do you think this is about, putting in your own words? It's about that.
God will make his hands very, very soon. Okay, so he's talking about the Israelites here, right? Because this is Deuteronomy, so they're still in the desert. They're about to enter the promised land, right? So, let's sit up now, okay? So, that's what this is about. I already said what I think the best verse is, verse 18. So now, what do you think you're called to do? What does this have to do with the covenant today? And how does this tie to Jesus Christ?
Yeah, Jesus has the name above all names, doesn't he? And at the name of Jesus, everyone will, you know what this says, bow. That's right. At the name of Jesus, everyone will bow. And are we a special people? Yes. Yeah, we've been engrafted into Israel, haven't we? Yeah. Yeah. God's brought us into his family, made us his special people because you're that good, because you're perfect. Right. You were perfect. So he made you his child? No. No. So how did you become his child? He sacrificed himself. Yeah, but through Jesus's sacrifice, right? And because of your faith in him. That's right.
And so we can be we can do. Does that mean we get to keep on acting like pagan people? Nope. If we're special people, if we're God's people, what should we act like? Healthy. How about holy? Yeah, we we actually healthy in God's Word. OK, healthy spiritually, healthy spiritually, not. Well, I'm just saying it's not just about eating your vegetables, although you should eat your vegetables. Oh, I'll eat a bunch of food. But the point is, right, if we are God's children, we should act like God's children. That's right.
Easy done, right? No. OK, you ready to pray? You want to or you want me to? Me? You? Okay. And me. Oh, both of us. Okay, go ahead. God, thank you for this day. Please help that you are listening to it. Please help that they bring home the rain. Take home that they aren't little tiny things.
And that God created each one of you to All special. Lord, we do thank you so much that you have made us your special people, your treasured possession, your holy nation, and you have engrafted us into Israel by faith in Jesus Christ. Lord, we pray that we would trust in you and that as your children, we would live obedient lives in Jesus's name. Amen. Well, may God bless you. May you walk in the joy and peace that comes from Jesus, knowing that you are very special to him, elect and chosen of God. We'll see you next time. Say what? Adios!
