Unclean Discharges

Welcome to Coffee and Devotion. This is where every day you and I, we get together. We have a little bit of coffee, tea, milk. We get into God's Word and we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2023, Lord willing, we'll make it from Genesis through?
Leviticus. Leviticus. We're at Leviticus 15 today. It's a little bit of an odd chapter for a lot of people. Lots of people don't even know this chapter exists in the Bible. And we'll find out why it's in the Bible, and we'll work through it together. So let's have some coffee, we'll pray, and we'll get into God's Word. You mean, um, milk? Okay, let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. It is a blessing to come to you, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Father, we need your Holy Spirit to teach us and help us today in Jesus' name. Amen.
Alright, so we are at Leviticus chapter 15. Leviticus chapter 15. Now what we're going to do, I've got a big old smudge on my glasses there. What we're going to do is we're going to read through this and as we finish each chapter we'll talk about the paragraph that we've just read, okay? So read the paragraph and talk about the paragraph. Okay Allie, let's sit down. Here we go.
And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, When any man has a discharge from his body, his discharge is unclean. Okay, so the first nine verses are going to be about a man who has discharge, right? So this is the thing. What makes a boy different than a girl and a girl different than a boy? Hmm? What do you think? Lots of things. Lots of things. This is where some people get really awkward about this. Do girls have different privates than boys? Yeah. Yeah. And do boys have different privates than girls? Yeah. Yeah, right? And so this is talking about if a boy has something come out of his privates, okay? And this shall be his uncleanness in regard to his discharge. Whether his body runs with discharge or his body is stopped up by his discharge, it is his uncleanness. Nope, we're gonna put this book away while we're reading. Okay, sit down, pay attention. Every bed is unclean on which he who has the discharge lies, and everything on which he sits will be unclean. And whoever touches his bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
He who sits on anything Ooh, that's a good cough. He's who sits on anything on which he who has the discharge sat shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. And he who touches the body of him who has the discharge shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. If he who has the discharge spits on him who is clean, then he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. Any saddle on which he who has the discharge rides shall be unclean. Whoever touches anything that was under him shall be unclean until evening. He who carries any of those things shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.
And whoever has the one who has the discharge touches and has not rinsed his hands in water shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until Evening the vessel of the earth that he who has a discharge such as shall be what do you think should happen to the vessel? Shall be broken and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water And he who has a discharge is cleansed of his discharge.
Then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleaning. How many days for his cleaning? Seven days. He shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in running water. Then he shall be clean. That's right. On the eighth day, he shall take for himself two turtledoves and two young pigeons and come before the Lord. What do you think he's going to do with the turtledoves and the pigeons?
Sacrifices. Sacrifices, right. To the door of the tabernacle of meeting and give them to the priest. Then the priest shall offer them, the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord because of his discharge.
If any man has an emission of seed, then he shall wash all his body in water, and be unclean until evening. And any garment and any leather on which there is seed, it shall be washed with water, and be unclean until evening. Also, when a woman lies with a man, there is an emission of semen, they shall bathe in water, and shall be unclean until Evening.
So verses 1 through verse 18 is all about man or woman? Man. A man, right? And if a man has something come out of his private parts, what's it make him? Unclean. Unclean, right? And so he's got anything he touches becomes unclean. The people he touches become unclean. All sorts of stuff like that, right? So it's not because this is necessarily sinful or something like that, but he's unclean, right? Meaning he shouldn't be coming into contact with the holy things. So it changes in verse 19, from men to what do you think it's going to talk about now?
Women, that's right. If a woman has a discharge and the discharge from her body is blood, she shall be set apart seven days and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. So this is that monthly cycle that women have. Did you know in Israel they've actually done archaeology and there's a room that they found in one of the houses.
And in that room, they have all these pots. And guess what happens with those pots? What? They've been broken. And right outside the door is a place where there's like a bath. Like a hole in a rock. What do you think they would do with that hole in the rock?
Break it? Nope, not break it. What do you think they might... Wash in it? That's right. It's almost like a bath. And so if a lady is on that certain time of the month, guess what she gets to do? It's mine. I'm just gonna go in my room. Go in your room for a week and not bother with people, right?
Alright, well everything that she lies on during her impurity shall be unclean. So everything that she sits on shall be unclean. Whoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. And whoever touches anything that she sat on shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. If anything is on her bed, or on anything on which she sits, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening. And if any man lies with her at all, so that her impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days. And every bed on which she lies shall be unclean.
So this is just that time during the month that ladies are kind of able to go by themselves. and they're able to have a time where they are typically not having to be bothered and stuff like that. But if there was a lady and it was that time of the month, do you think that she would be allowed to go into the tabernacle? No. just like a man wouldn't if he had a discharge. Okay, well verse 25, if a woman has a discharge of blood for many days other than at the time of her customary impurity, or if it runs beyond her usual time of impurity, all the days of her unclean discharge shall be as the days of her customary impurity.
She shall be unclean. Every bed on which she lies all the days of her discharge shall be to her as the bed of her impurity and whatever she sits on shall be unclean as the uncleanness of her impurity. Whoever touches those things shall be unclean. He shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.
But if she is cleansed of her discharge, then she shall count for herself seven days. And after that, she shall be clean. And on the eighth day, she shall take for herself two turtle doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest to the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Then what's up?
One shall be a sin offering, and one shall be a burnt offering. Thus ye shall separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them." So why is this all like, if you're unclean, if you're unclean, if you're unclean, if you're unclean, till evening, till evening, till evening. Why give all these laws? Well, just to like, if something's not quite, do you want to have, let's say, something really messy and something really clean. Because then that something clean becomes messy.
Okay, last two verses. This is the law from one who has a discharge, and for him who emits semen and is unclean thereby, and for her who is indisposed because of her customary impurity, and for one who has a discharge, either man or woman, or for him who lies with her who is unclean.
So, do you guys remember the story of the woman with the issue of blood? Yeah. Was it a short time she had this impurity? for a long, long time, years and years and years. And what did she think if she went up to Jesus and she did what? Just touch the hem of his garment, she would be what? Clean. But here it says that if anybody was touched by her, what would happen to that person? They would become unclean. But does Jesus become unclean? No. No, because of how holy Jesus is, as soon as he gets Touched by her what happens to her. She's clean. She becomes clean.
It's helpful to think about it like like Like, you know, there's like circles where like they're like in a lap and like if one circle is like dark then This circle becomes dark and this circle becomes dark. It's like helpful to think like if this is like strong, then if this person is unclean, this person touches it, it can become unclean. But if this person is holy and this person is unclean, this person can become clean. So how do we become clean?
By Jesus. That's right, by Jesus. And if we come in contact with Jesus and we're clean, then what are we allowed to do? Serve God, come into his presence, right? Do we find hope and healing? Yeah. All right, let's go ahead and pray. You guys have good coughs. Let's pray.
Lord, we pray Father that you would please let us know who you are. And we pray Lord that what you have called clean, we would not call unclean. And we pray as we come into contact with you, that we would be cared for, and that we would know that you welcome us into your presence. Please Lord, let us love you and follow in your ways, in Jesus' name.
