Trust His Promises

Hey, hey, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we are at Jeremiah chapter 31. We're gonna pick up at verse 23 and go to verse 30. Let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll find out what Jeremiah has for us this morning. Let's pray.
Father, we thank you so much for this day. What a blessing it is to get to be back together, reading your word, spending time with one another. Lord, we pray that your Holy Spirit would be teaching us Lord, let us walk in your ways. Let us know who you are and trust in you always. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Here we go.
Jeremiah chapter 31, beginning at verse 23. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, they shall again use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities when I bring back their captivity. The Lord bless you, O home of justice and mountain of holiness. And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all its cities together, farmers and those going out with flocks. For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. After this I awoke, and looked around, and my sleep was sweet to me.
Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast. And it shall come to pass that as I have watched over them to pluck them up, to break them down, to throw them down, to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the Lord. In those days they shall say no more. The fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children's teeth are set on edge. But everyone shall die for his own iniquity. Every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge. Well, we need to ask ourselves our three questions. A, what's this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what do we call it to do? So A, what's this about?
Well, it's about God promising to bring back the people. He says that this judgment he had brought on them It's not going to last forever. He says he's going to bring them back. They shall again use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities when I bring back their captivity. And what are they going to say? They're going to say, Jehovah bless you, O home of justice and mountain of holiness. He's going to satiate their weary soul, replenish every sorrowful nephesh, every sorrowful soul. He's going to care for them and watch over them. They're going to look around after wrestling and just not having peace.
They're gonna sleep, and they're gonna wake up and realize, I haven't had any more nightmares. No more terrors, no more restlessness, no more anxiety. But Shalom. Sweet sleep, a gift from the Lord. He says, behold, the days are coming, says Jehovah. He's gonna fill the city again with people and with animals.
It's gonna be good. Kids' teeth aren't gonna be set on edge anymore because of their parents' sins. It says, everyone shall die for his own iniquity, and every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge, right? No longer are the children gonna keep on suffering because of the sins of the parents, but he's gonna be good.
In his mercy, God's gonna bring them back. In his grace, God's going to give them the city again, his mountain of holiness. And God did this, right? The people did return from exile. It's a beautiful and wonderful thing. So that's what this is about. So what's the best verse to summarize this? Well...
Verse 23 would be a good one to underline. I have verse 25 underlined in my Bible, though. Maybe you would underline something different. Go ahead and write down in the comments, if you're on YouTube or Facebook or something, and tell me what would you underline in your Bible? Well, last, seek calling. What are we called to do? Or how does this point us to Jesus Christ, right? Well, this is a blessing here, right? God cares for us.
We're still sojourners and pilgrims in this world. Jerusalem would be destroyed again. You get to 64 AD, the place of 70 AD, the place of 67 is when it started, 70 is when it completely destroyed. It's going to be wiped off the map, essentially. And we're still soldiers and pilgrims.
God was faithful. He brought them back from Babylon, but yet The New Testament talks to us as sojourners and pilgrims. So do we know, do we trust that there is a heavenly city in which our inheritance is secure, that we can go to God, that we can trust him, that we can walk in his ways and know that he's good, that we can have sweet sleep, that we can know that he cares for us with an everlasting love? Don't let your teeth be set on edge. You live in a tumultuous time, in a place where there's murder and slander and persecution and hardship. And yet, we know that God has prepared for us a rest with him that will last forever.
And so trust his promises. Though there may be weeping by Rachel and Ramah, we know that out of it, came Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who will someday come again to judge the living and the dead. So trust in him. Look to him, your King of Kings.
Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you that you have satiated our weary souls. We can find rest in you, God. Thank you, Lord, for your goodness and your love towards us. Father, we pray that you would please give us strength for the day. Help us to look heavenly, heavenward, Lord, and not just staring at our own navels or think of our own problems. But God, we pray that we would trust you always. In Jesus's name, amen. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May you walk in his ways and may your soul be satisfied with his goodness.
