Trust God Completely

Good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we're at Deuteronomy chapter 1 verses 19 through 33. Dan Dankaiaman is here with me this morning. Why don't we have some coffee, pray, and we'll get into God's Word. Coffee? Is it hot? Oh, that's really hot. You don't want to get it? Okay, okay. Why don't we pray? It's too hot. Yeah, do you want to pray or do you want me to pray? Me? Okay, let's pray.
God, we thank you so much for this day. What a blessing it is to get to read your word. Father, we pray that you would please help us to understand it. We pray that your Holy Spirit would teach us and apply the words of your word to our hearts. We need your Holy Spirit to do this in Jesus' name. Amen.
All right, so here we go. Deuteronomy, right over here, verse 19. So I will let you read, okay? So we, so we. Mm-hmm, so we departed. From Horeb. Horeb, yep. And went. Good job. And went to all that great. All that great. terrible wilderness which you saw on the way to the mountains of the amorites good job keep going as Mountain of the Amorites, as our God had commanded us, then we came to Kadesh Barnea and I said to you, you have come to the mountains of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving Look Before you Go up and possess it as the Lord your your father's has spoken and Oh, no yawns. Those are contagious. Oh, I've spoken to you. Do not fear or be discouraged. All right, so be discouraged.
Verse 22. came near to me and said, Let us send men before us, let them search out the land for us, bring back word to us of the way by which we should go up. and of the cities into which we shall come. The plan pleased me well, so I took twelve of your men, one man from each tribe, departed, and we into the mountains and came to the valley of Eskel and spied, and spied, spied it out.
Good job. What happened next? Verse 25. They also took some of the root, brought it down to us. They brought back word. It is a good land. It's a good way in which the Lord God is giving us. Nevertheless, as you would not go up, but rebelled against the command of the Lord, you God, you complained. Tense and said. They complained in their tents and said. Good job.
Because the Lord hates us. Brought us. He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the Amorites to destroy us. To destroy us. Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying, the people are greater and taller than the cities are and fortified. Moreover, we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.
That's like the giants. Then I said to you, that's a hard word, terrified. Do not be terrified. afraid. The Lord, your God, who goes before you. No, no, above that. The Lord, your God, who goes before you, he will fight. Nope, not fight you. It's not that the Lord is going to fight them. It says he will fight for you according to all he did before your eyes. wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you as a man carries his son in all the way that you went until you came to this place. Yet for all that you did not believe the Went in the with a before you and.
Before you to search out. A place for. Search out a well now you got to change your page. Search out a place for you to pitch your tent. to pitch your tents. In the fire. and in the cloud by day. Okay. So he says they were, they had gotten to Kadesh Barnea. That's right next to the promised land, just South of it.
And they said, Hey Moses, Hey Moses. Well, first we need to ask ourselves, Hey, what is this? B what is the best verse to summarize and see what are we What are we called to do? So what is this about? So they get to Kadesh Barnea and they are right about to enter the promised land. And they say, hey, Moses, hey, Moses, we want to go see the land first. So what does Moses do? He's like, oh, we'll send out spies. Good. We'll send out some spies. They go even to the valley of Eskil. And what do they find? Rude, it's is it a good land.
Yeah, it's a just like God had promised So they come back and they say we got it boys. We can do this Is that what happens what happens Yeah, you guys don't get crushed like little tiny ants they're like giants and we're like oh Little, tiny, peeny grasshoppers. And now notice what he said here, right?
Even though they brought back some of the word on all this, nevertheless, you would not go up for you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God. And you complained in your tents and said, because the Lord, now notice this, notice what they think about God. They say, the Lord hates us. He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us.
Does it sound like they have faith? Nope. Does it sound like they're trusting God? Yeah, where can we go up our brethren have discouraged our heart saying the people have greater and taller than than we the cities are great and fortified up to heaven They're saying they got huge cities. How can we ever fight them and there's even Giants? And so will they go No, not the life in there, but Will they so are they gonna go?
Nope. But did Moses try to encourage them? Yep. Yeah. Right. What did he say in verse 30? This is what I got underlined. This is actually what I think is the best verse. The Lord your God who goes before you, he will fight for you according to all he did for you in Egypt before your eyes. The Lord will do this, the Lord can do it. Did Moses try to encourage them? So Moses is telling this generation, Moses is telling this generation, hey, remember what your fathers did. Sometimes do I have to do that? Sometimes I have to say, hey, Dan, Dan, don't make the same dumb mistakes I made.
Yeah. Yeah. Right. That's what Moses is kind of doing here. He's trying to tell them, oh, my God, I won't get it. Yeah, right. Is Moses going to get to see the promised land because he said, yeah, because he said, right. But does he want the people to get God's promises? Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's right That's right Do you think that that's what I want for you?
I want you to move to Canaan and invite the Amalekites and the Canaanites No, so what do you think this calls us to do Oh Okay, obey Him. Why should we obey Him? Because it's just the right thing to do? Or what do you think the motivation for obedience should be?
If you go back like a hundred years ago, a thousand years ago, God was more serious then. I think He's just as serious today. But does He talk out of clouds? No, he doesn't do that type of stuff anymore, I don't think. But does the Lord still take it seriously that we need to follow him? To obey him? But I think he tells us to have faith. The same way he was challenging them to believe.
They had seen it with their eyes. Did they see what happened in Egypt? Well, yeah, yeah, their daddies did, right? If that was a giant storm, we would go into that shelter. Yeah. But God can still be there when there's a horrible storm. Yeah, but the point is they had seen God do amazing things in Egypt, but did they trust him? Nope.
So my question is, can you trust him? Yeah, I think, well, I think this is what Romans tells us, right? That we know that all things work together for the good of those who love him and have been called according to his purposes. So even when there's difficult things in our lives or scary things in our lives, can we trust that God has a plan? Can we trust that God knows what he's doing? Does that make it easy? No, but can we go with confidence and peace? Yep. Yeah.
Because God's watching over you. That's right, because God's watching over you, isn't he? And then God does specks of dust to him. They are. All right. The giants are like specks of dust to him. All right. You ready to pray? That's right. He could. Hey, do you want to pray or do you want me to pray? Okay, go ahead. I bet you're going to do great. Amen. Well, we pray that the Lord blesses you as you trust in him, even in the dark and difficult days, even when it's hard. May you have faith. We'll see you next time. You want to say bye? Bye!
