The Peace Offering

Good morning, good morning! Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This is where every day, you and I, we get together, we have whatever happens to be in your cup. Cause I think we got tea, and milk, and coffee this morning. I have coffee in mine. She's got coffee in hers. Oh, look at that, yummy. Alright, why don't we have some coffee?
And we'll be in God's Word, we pray. And we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2023, Lord willing, we'll make a congenesis through Leviticus. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus. From Genesis through Leviticus. Oh, okay. Well, while we have some coffee, we'll pray and we'll get into God's Word. It's hot. You can let it cool down. Okay, let's go ahead and pray. God, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for blessing us with your word and with your Holy Spirit. We pray that you would please teach us this morning in Jesus' name. Amen. Alright, so we are at the book of Leviticus chapter 3. Leviticus chapter 3, here we go.
When his offering is a sacrifice of a peace offering, so what type of offering is this? Peace offering. A peace offering, a shalom offering, or a well-being offering. If he offers it of the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord. means like it can't be something that's like lame or has like a deep chrome in it.
Or a little bit of spots all over it. Yeah, it can hamper it. Spots all over it. Like a chicken. Yeah. That's right, you want to take the best animal, not the cheapest one. And he shall lay, yeah, or the rooster we had who didn't have a foot, right? Yeah, you don't want to take that. All right. All right.
And he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Okay. And Aaron's sons, the priests, shall sprinkle the blood all around the altar. So the priest, he puts his hand on its head. They kill the animal. What do they do with the blood? Sprinkle it. Sprinkle it all around the altar. What does sprinkle mean?
Then he shall offer from the sacrifice of the peace offering, an offering made by fire to the Lord. Alright, so now what's he do with the peace offering? He puts it on the altar, that's right. The fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the flanks and the fatty lobe attached to the liver above the kidneys he shall remove. and Aaron's son shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt offering, which is on the wood that is on the fire, as an offering made by fire, a sweet-smelling aroma to the Lord.
Yes, Ellen. It's a flower of bad animals. What? Flower of bad animals. Flower is a bad animal? Uh-huh. I don't know what you're talking about. She means like babies. Oh, well that's not an animal, that's a plant. Okay, so they take the kidney, they take the liver, they take the fat, and what do they do with it? They burn it? They burn it, that's right. So this is similar to a burnt offering. Daddy? Yes? What do you say that the plants are? The plants are what? No, she's saying the living thing. Oh, okay, well we're reading about this now, okay?
So, why do you think that they would offer the kidney, the liver, the fat, that type of stuff to the Lord by full burnt offering? Because it's healthy? Yeah, it's like the best part of the animal in their culture. Well, some people still love the liver. Some people still love those parts. Alright, let's go ahead and finish reading.
If his offering as a sacrifice of a peace offering to the Lord is of the flock, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish. If he offers a lamb as his offering, then he shall offer it before the Lord, and he shall lay his hand on his head, on the head of his offering, and kill it before the tabernacle of meeting. And Aaron's son shall sprinkle its blood around the altar. Then he shall offer from the sacrifice of the peace offering as an offering made by fire to the Lord its fat and the whole fat tail which he shall remove close to the backbone.
So the tail is cut off and what happens? And then what would he do with the tail? So they're butchering the animal. Cut off the tail. You're just talking about the tail and you would burn the tail. Yes. Sit in the living room. But we don't have anything in there.
And the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the flanks and the fatty lobe attached to the liver above the kidneys, he shall remove. And the priest shall burn them on the altar as food, an offering made by fire to the Lord.
And if his offering is a goat, He shall offer it before the Lord. He shall lay his hand on its head and kill it before the tabernacle of meeting. And the sons from it his offering, and an offering made by fire to the Lord, the fat that covers the entrails, and the fat that is on the entrails, the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them by the flanks. And the fatty lobe attacks the liver above the kidneys he shall remove. And the priest shall burn them on the altar as food and offering made by fire for a sweet aroma. All the fat is the Lord's. This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations. In all your dwellings you shall neither eat fat nor blood.
Alright, so what type of offering was this? Nope, not a burnt. A peace offering. Did it sound a lot like a burnt offering? Yes. But was all of it burnt up? What do you think they did with the rest of the meat? They ate it. The people got to eat it. This was a covenant meal. Right? Normally you had a peace offering when there was a covenant made. Or you wanted to praise God. Or you wanted to ask God. to remember His covenant and the things that He had promised.
And so, a peace offering was a little bit different than a burnt offering, or a full burnt offering. It wasn't a burnt offering. It wasn't a whole... If the whole thing was a burnt offering, should it depend on the priests who did it? Nope, not the burnt offering. The burnt offering, everything is burnt. But the peace offering is just the lobes of the liver and the kidney, the fatty entrails, the fat, the tail, that type of stuff was burned. But the meat was eaten by the priests.
But I thought the doves are the stuff. Well, here you can't do doves. It doesn't give you the option for doves. But please keep your peace to yourselves. Is doves a bad animal? Nope, it's got to be a good animal. Right, so this is a peace offering. Now let me ask, do you think God needs to eat? No. No. He doesn't have a stomach. No, he doesn't have a stomach. He doesn't have a body like man, does he? He does not have a digestive system.
But did you know that the pagans thought that their gods actually had to eat? And their gods needed to be washed? And their gods needed to have clothes put on them and stuff like that? So they needed to make temples, houses for them, and clothes for them. And they needed to feed them!
Listen, I need you to listen. Can I say something about God's body being a dwarf? God's body is not the world. If someone said that, that's not true. God is bigger than the world. God holds the whole world in his hand. But God is not, the world is not God's body. God doesn't have a body like men.
He's a spirit. And so do you think he needs to eat a steak like you did the other night? No! He doesn't need all that. So why does he need sacrifices? Because it's sweet, smelly. Well, no, this is a blessing, right? This is a way that people get to remember God's covenant, get to remember who God is. And so these sayings are largely for the people who... Okay, Ellie, listen. Ellie, look at me. I need you to listen this morning, okay? This is more for the people to remember that God is the one who gave them a covenant. God was their king. God was the one who gave them peace, life, breath, and all things. And so they could come to Him and have peace.
So it sounds like something... Well, let me ask, is there a temple today? Yes. Oh, are you sure? In heaven. Well, there's a tabernacle in heaven, you're right about that. Or the living temple. Or the living temple, so... Oh, maybe like when we offer up Praise? You think it's a sacrifice of praise? Do we remember God's covenant? That's right. Okay, let's go ahead and pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. Lord, it's been a wiggly morning. It's been a morning of lots of funniness and talking.
But Lord, we pray, thanking you so much that you have given us a way of peace with you. And that peace was specifically done through Jesus Christ. Lord, we pray that you would please let us remember who you are and the peace that you have given us in Jesus. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. May God bless you. May you get all your wiggles out.
