Thank God-His Grace is Forever

you tonight this is where this is normally in the morning you and I we get together we get into God's word we grow and I love the Lord together and this year 2021 we will make it through all the wisdom literature well tonight we are at Psalm 136 it's a real treat to have you tonight it's a real treat to have the Psalm this is basically a Psalm that's going to zoom us through the Old Testament and show us what the central focus of the Old Testament was.
So why don't we go ahead and pray, and we'll get into God's Word. Father, we thank you for this day. We thank you for your Word, and we pray that as we read it, we might marvel at your mercy. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, Psalm 136. Let's turn there together. Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever. O give thanks to the God of gods, for his mercy endures forever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his mercy endures forever.
To him who alone does great wonders, for his mercy endures forever. To him who is by wisdom made the heavens, his mercy endures forever. To him who laid out the earth above the waters, his mercy endures forever. To him who made great lights, His mercy endures forever. To the sun to rule by day, His mercy endures forever. The moon and stars to rule by night, His mercy endures forever.
To him who struck Egypt in their firstborn, His mercy endures forever. And brought out Israel from among them, His mercy endures forever. With a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, his mercy endures forever. To him who divided the sea in two, his mercy endures forever. and made Israel pass through the midst of it, his mercy endures forever. But overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, for his mercy endures forever. To him who led his people through the wilderness, for his mercy endures forever.
To him who struck down great kings, for his mercy endures forever. And slew famous kings, for his mercy endures forever. Sihon, king of the Amorites, for his mercy endures forever. And Og, king of Bashan, for his mercy endures forever. And Gav, their land as a heritage, for his mercy endures forever. His heritage to Israel, his servant, for his mercy endures forever. who remembered us in our lowly state, for his mercy endures forever, and rescued us from our enemies, for his mercy endures forever, who gives food to all flesh, for his mercy endures forever. O give thanks to the God of heaven, for his mercy endures forever.
We need to ask ourselves, A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what are we called to do in response to this? Well, it starts off in verse 1 and it closes in verse 26 with a command, O give thanks to the Lord. for he is good.
O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. O give thanks to the God of heaven, for his mercy endures forever. The continual repetition here again and again of the line, for his mercy endures forever. For his grace. for his loving kindness, for his favor endures forever."
What is this about? It's telling us to give thanks to God. And it takes us from creation through the wilderness and talks of God's mercy, his favor, his grace shown through all generations at all times, his mercy endures forever. And what should be the response, the overflow of our hearts when we hear of the God of the universe who remembers the lowly, who redeemed his people out of Egypt, who heard their cries, who brought them through the Red Sea, who made the way through the Red Sea and into the promised land, who defeated the kings of the nations? How should we respond? with thanks for His mercy endures forever. How should we respond to the Great King? To the One who is the Alpha and the Omega, who remembered us in our lowliest state and sent His own Son to redeem us?
Oh, brothers and sisters, His mercy endures forever. His grace is new every morning. His loving kindness is there. His grace is always sufficient for us. We can give thanks to the Lord, for He is the God of gods, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the ruler of heaven and earth. His mercy endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord today. Let's pray. Father, we thank you. that your mercy endures forever, that you show it in your covenant of redemption and you have shown it through the entire creation of the world and you have shown us that your mercy, your loving kindness, your chesed endures forever. It never ends for you are a gracious God and we thank you that you have remembered us in your kindness. Father, we thank you and we praise you. for you are good. In Jesus's name, amen. Well, may you go to sleep tonight comforted knowing that his mercy endures forever. May your heart overflow with thanksgiving and may that heart give you a good night of sleep and rest in the Lord.
