Well, good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we're at Joshua chapter 19, verses 1 through 9. What does Simeon get? Let's figure out what his lot is. You ready to have some coffee? All right, we'll have some coffee. We'll pray. We'll get into God's Word. Nope, just a little warm. May even be a little cold by now. It's been a while. Don't drink all my coffee, you little lush.
Okay, let's pray. God, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for your word, and we pray that as we read your word, your Holy Spirit would please teach us what we're to believe, what we're to do. In Jesus' name, amen. Oh, you spilled coffee on my Bible. Oh boy. Oh boy, now we're going to know forever that we were in that page. All right, here we go.
Joshua chapter 19, start right here at verse 1. The second lot came out for Simeon, for the tribe of the children of Simeon, according to their families. And their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah. So they had their inheritance.
Oh, here's what we'll do. We will pull up the map here because now we're talking about Simeon. Exactly, see we just said Beersheba and so let me... Beersheba is right here. Let me get my arm over here to make it larger. Beersheba, right there. You see that town of Beersheba? Yeah. There? Okay. Alright, here we go.
So, Beersheba. molada has our shul bala asm el toled bethel or ma zik like beth macabre both harza sorry hazra susa beth laboev and Sharufin, 13 cities and their villages, Ain, Ramon, Ether, and Ashan, 4 cities and their villages, and all the villages that were all around these cities as far as Balathbir, Ramah, to the south, of the south, this was the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families.
The inheritance of the children of Simeon was included in the share of the children of Judah. For the share of the children of Judah was too much for them. Therefore the children of Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of that people. Wait, Judah didn't want Simeon?
Well, no, it's not that Judah didn't want to send me in, but do you see how big Judah's territory is? It was huge all the way up here and all the way down here, going all the way and all the way and all the way. And so when the Lord's lot falls to send me in, it falls within Judah, the area somewhere in here.
So they did want to send me in. Well, yeah, they're friends with their brother. But they wanted to send me in. Well, they wanted it, but theirs was large, right? And so I think that might give us a good moral principle, like we could share with people, right? When the Lord gives us some by our lot, can we just greedily take it as ours? Like, no, God gave this all to me and you just shut up and go get your own. Nope. Sometimes the Lord decides you could share. So the Lord decided, no, no, they could share. So that's what Simeon got.
So in my Bible, I think verse 1 is what this is all about, but I could see somebody underlining verse 9 also. Well, verse 10 starts talking about Zebulun. So I'll talk about Zebulun next. Verse 8 is about the different cities and that those were the cities by tribe to the children of Simeon, according to their families.
Why don't you just do all of this? I'm not going to do all of them. I would never do something like that. Well, what do you think? What do you think we're called to do as we think about Simeon getting his allotment? I think we're supposed to stand up, shout, and I'll be like, oh this is my land, you can't touch it. Okay, so does this teach you anything about God and his covenant or about Jesus and his grace or anything like that? Yeah, he gave them super big a plan so they can shout it. Yeah, so was God stingy with them?
Nope. No, God was generous with his promise, wasn't he? Yep. Yeah. And then out of their promise, they were able to then share with others. Yeah. Has God been in us a lot? So Judah's brother is Simeon? Mm-hmm. Yeah, these are all the... Each tribe was a brother. Then why did they fight their brothers? Because sometimes you ever fight with your brother? Yeah. Yeah.
Sometimes they win it, sometimes they lose it. Mm-hmm. But the point being, right, has God given us a lot? And has he given us so much that we can share with others? Yep. Oh, yeah, absolutely. We can give a whole bunch to others, can't we? What's what's the most valuable thing we could share with somebody else? God's word. God's word, specifically the hope we have in Jesus. You ready to pray?
Yeah. Okay. And God, we thank you so much that the lines have fallen to us in lovely places, that you have given us an inheritance, not just a piece of land in the Middle East somewhere, but Father, you have given us Jesus Christ, our inheritance that's kept secure for us. Lord, you You know where we're going because you have given us your Son, your Spirit, and your promise. Help us to trust you all our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen. May God bless you.
