Remember God's Provision

Hey, hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions this morning. We're at Deuteronomy chapter 16 verses 13 through 17 We're going to talk about the last of the three required feasts for all the guys in Israel Kind of what that means for us. So we'll look at the feast of booths At the Feast of Tabernacles, let's have some coffee. We'll pray and get into God's Word Let's pray.
Father, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word. Lord, we pray that you would please help us as we read, that we would understand it. Lord, we pray that we would know who you are, that we would walk in your ways, that we would trust your commandments, that we would go where you have led us. Lord, thank you for who you are. Please give us your spirit now in Jesus's name. Amen. All right, here we go. Deuteronomy chapter 16, beginning at verse 13 through 17.
You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days when you have gathered from your threshing floor and from your wine press. And you shall rejoice in your feast, you and your sons and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, and the Levite, the stranger and the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates. Seven days you shall keep a sacred feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses, because Jehovah your God will bless you in all your produce. and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice.
Three times a year all your mail shall appear before Yehovah your God in the place which He chooses, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Tabernacles, and they shall not appear before Yehovah empty-handed, every man shall give as he is able according to the blessing of the lord your god which he has given you so we need to ask our three questions a what's this about b what's the best verse to summarize this and c what are we called to do in response to this so a what is this about well we've gone through what these different Ceremonies were right. So at the first part versus 1 through 8 we talked about the Feast of Unleavened Bread the Passover and then the Feast of Unleavened Bread that would follow and then also or sorry backwards, but then also Last time Debra and I got together we talked about the Feast of Weeks, right? and so these seven weeks after the the the Harvest has come up and they're putting a sickle to the grain and they're and that's the Rejoicing and the harvest God gave them from the grain harvest. Well now we come to the last of these three So we have the Feast of Unleavened Bread or the Passover. We have a Feast of Weeks now we have the Feast of Tabernacles or the Feast of Boots when you have gathered together you're from your threshing floor and from your wine press, right?
You've done all these you've done all this now you're going to go and this is this going to wherever the tabernacle is and Eventually the temple and it will be Jerusalem this third ceremony this third Rejoicing of going and remembering that God brought them out of Egypt. He redeemed them and he's given them the joy of sustenance He's blessed them with all the good things. Notice, and you shall rejoice in your feast, you and your sons and your daughters, your male servants and your female servant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates. Right?
This is a sacred feast. After they've gone to the threshing floor, after the harvest is over, after they've they've pressed out all the wine, right? This is the feast of weeks was remembering that God was going to, right? It's almost like the feast of the first roots. Now it's the final right now. It's all of it's done. They have all they need is praise God for what he's done.
They go and they set up tents or booths, tabernacles, and they remember that they once wandered in the wilderness. But God redeemed them, God brought them to his promised land, their covenant king was good to them, and he provided for them. So this was that last kind of big camp out gathering, big feast and celebration, wherever the tabernacle was, they would go and they would thank the Lord for what he had done, right? As God prospered them, so they would give unto the Lord. So that's what this is about.
But there's notice the very last part here, the last paragraph, 18 through seven, or 16 through 17, was talking about three times a year, all the males are supposed to go, right? So everybody's invited, but the males must show up, right? The heads of the family, they gotta show up for these three feasts, right?
Three times a year, they're to go up to Jerusalem. They're supposed to go, well, it will be eventually Jerusalem, right? Versus Shiloh and other places, right? When there's a tabernacle moving on. But they'll eventually all go to Jerusalem three times a year. That's where they celebrate the Passover. That's where they celebrate the Feast of Weeks. That's where they celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. Three times a year, all the males must go. It's a requirement for them.
And so every man shall give as he is able according to the blessing of the Lord your God, which he has given you three times a year. It's baked into the Israelite system, routine, that they were to remember that their God was a God who was good to them. Their God was a God who kept his promises. Their God was a God who provided for them. The Lord their God, the Lord their God, the Lord your God, the Lord your God, again and again and again. This is repeated. Why? Because they were so easy to forget the Lord their God. And so this is meant to stir up their hearts to remember year after year, God was good, God was true, God was faithful, and they could trust him. So that's what this is about.
B, best verse, what to summarize? Best verse to summarize this would probably be verse 13, but I would say verse 16, I think it's at the whole section of chapter 16. So 16, I think is a good verse for all of 16. with the three different beasts. Well, last see calling. What are we called to do?
Do you remember the Lord is good to you? When you eat, do you thank God for the food he's provided for you? When you get your paycheck, do you rejoice that the Lord gave you a job? Do you thank the Lord for your home? When you drink water, do you think the Lord that the tap work? When the air conditioning kicks on or the furnace turns on in the winter, do you thank the Lord? When you tie your shoes in the morning, do you thank God for shoes?
I gotta tell you, I've been in some pretty poor places in the world. There's a lot we take for granted. God has been good to you. If you are watching this, that means you're watching it on some type of screen. It means you are not poor. God's given you so much. Do you routinely and regularly thank the Lord for He is good? Let's pray. God, we thank you that you are good, that your mercies are new every morning.
Your compassion does not fail. Even in the darkest hours of our lives, Lord, you are still good. You are wonderful. You've kept your promises. And Lord, even though our flesh may fail us and our hearts may grow weak, Lord, we know that our Redeemer lives. And we know that even, even today, there's a time for rejoicing, a time to have hope. because you are a king. In Jesus's name we pray, amen. I pray that you are filled with gratitude and thanks, that you look unto God and you recognize all the good things he's given to you, and you're filled with contentment and joy in Jesus.
