Profane Fire - Nadab and Abihu

Well, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This is where every day you and I, we get together, we get into God's Word and we... Have some tea. We have some tea or maybe some sparkling water. I have coffee. And we get into God's Word and we grow.
We grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2023, will Lord willing make it from Genesis to Exodus? Genesis to Leviticus. That's right, Leviticus. Why don't we have something to drink? We'll pray and we'll get into God's Word. Daniel has sparkly water. Is that good? Alright. Let's pray. Lord, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for blessing us with time to be in your word and we pray that you would please teach us and help us in Jesus' name. Amen. Alright, we have one of the scariest, hardest stories in Leviticus to do.
Is it about the plague of frogs? No, the plague of frogs is Exodus. Alright, so do you know who Aaron was? Who was Aaron? He was a priest. A high priest, that's right. Did you know he had sons? Uh huh. Do you know how many sons Aaron had? Oh yeah, two. Four. And his class went off. Yeah. He had four boys. And we're going to read about two of his boys. They just became priests. They're like brand new on the job. Ready?
Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them. What is profane fire? Profane means like a bad fire, not holy fire, not like a fire that came down from heaven and consumed the sacrifices.
Maybe it was the idols? Maybe it was just whatever they came up with in their brain? Yeah, had God commanded that? Nope. In chapter 8 and 9, do you want to know something? Moses had consecrated Aaron as God had commanded him. And then in chapter 9, Aaron made his sacrifices, guess how? As God had commanded him.
As God had commanded them, as the Lord had commanded them, as the Lord had commanded them, as the Lord had commanded them, as the Lord had commanded them, as the Lord had commanded them, as the Lord had commanded them. Nebuchadnezzar and Abihu came with their censers and offered strange fire as the Lord had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them. And they died before the Lord. Yeah, they died. happy thing? No, this is a sad thing.
And Moses said to Aaron, this is what the Lord spoke, saying, by those who come near me, I must be regarded as holy. And before all the people, I must be glorified. So Aaron held his peace. What do you think that means? So Aaron held his peace. So he bowed his head to God, sir. No, he zipped his lips.
Had Aaron done something before that God had not commanded him? Uh, the... Yeah, the golden calves. But did God consume Aaron? No. Did God have a right to? Uh, yes. Yes, but God hadn't. Now, Aaron, I think, takes it in his heart. I couldn't imagine what would happen if you and Bubba died. Do you think I'd be quiet or do you think I would weep and wail? Weep and wail. But Aaron held his peace.
Then Moses called Mishael and Elazaphan, the sons of Uziel, the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, Come near. Carry your brethren from before the sanctuary of the camp. So they went near and carried them by their tunics out of the camp, as Moses had said. And Moses said to Aaron and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons, Do not uncover your heads, nor tear your clothes, lest you die, and wrath come upon all the people. But let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the Lord has kindled. Dad, I bet the other sons won't get it off. Well, Eliezer and Ithamar are the other sons.
Are they dead? They don't get killed the same way. Good. Yeah. You shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die. For the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses. So Moses tells them, don't leave. You're holy. You've been anointed. You can't leave.
If you leave, what's the Lord going to do? Did he just do it to their brothers? And to Aaron's son? Yeah. God just killed them. Do you think we should mess around with God's holiness? What about, do you think God is a jealous God? Yes, He says that in His Bible. Yeah, He says it in His Bible, right? And so we, we have to treat Him as holy. We've got to be the type of people who listen to His Word. But do you think you listen to His Word perfectly? Have you done things the Lord has told you not to do?
Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. That's right, that's the only answer we have. Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. High five, man. Perfect. Lazy high five. Jesus died on the cross for us. We deserve the fire that Nadab and Abihu got, don't we? But who took that fire for us? Jesus. Pretty good news? Very good news.

Father, we thank you so much that even though we deserve the fires of hell and punishment because of our transgressions, you have not remembered our iniquities, but you have given us Jesus. Lord, we pray that you would give us hearts to love you, and to do as you command because we regard you as holy. Lord, we long to see your glory. In Jesus' name, amen.
