Offerings Support the Priests

All right, well good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotion This is where every weekday morning you and I we get together. We grab a little bit of coffee We get into God's Word and we grow in our love for Lord together this year 2024 we'll make it through the book of Numbers Deuteronomy and Hebrews and I have to think through it. Don't you? Well, are you gonna have my coffee? Yo, you Baker Baker, okay, we have some coffee pray and get into God's Word Ever is my girl who doesn't like coffee Let's pray father.
We thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word. Please help us as we read it to understand it Or that we would know how to follow after you in Jesus's name. Amen. OK, so we are at the book of Numbers, chapter 18, Numbers, chapter 18. We're going to read verses eight through 20, so I read.
And you just kind of how about you pick up the small paragraphs, is that good? What? Well that's what I'm saying, I'll read the big paragraphs and you can read the small paragraphs. Or we can just switch off paragraph, paragraph, paragraph. Switch off. Okay, okay. And the Lord spoke to Aaron.
Here I myself have also given you charge of my heave offering. All the holy gifts of the children of Israel I have given them as a portion to you and your sons, as an ordinance forever. This shall be yours of the most holy things reserved from the fire. Every offering of theirs, every grain offering and every sin offering, and every trespass offering which they render to me, shall be most holy for you and your sons. In a most holy place you shall eat it. Every male shall eat it. It shall be holy to you."
Alright, so what's that talking about? He's saying that Aaron and his sons couldn't eat the leftover from the sacrifice. Well, not just the leftovers, right? Like they can eat that. They can eat the sacrifice. Right. So the heave offerings and the wave offerings. Right. The grain offerings right there. That's theirs. Right. And so that that's what they're supposed to eat. Right. It's like a giant barbecue, like a grill out. Did you know that that the priest actually ate the sacrifice? Some of them. OK, you're going to read the first 11. This also is yours, the heave offering of their gift with all the wave offerings of children of Israel. I have given them to you, you and your sons and your daughters with you as ordinance forever.
Everyone who is clean in your house may eat it. All right, so what do you think that's saying? Everyone in your house that's clean can eat it. Yeah, right. So again, that's where that's going now. Okay. So his wife and his daughters eat it. Yeah, his whole family gets to eat it.
So there's going to be different sacrifices that only the priest get to eat. Others that the priest's family gets to eat. Others that the priest, his family, and the people who give it are allowed to eat. But these ones are specifically for the priest and his family. Okay, all the best of the oil all the best of the new wine and the green Their first fruits which they offer to the Lord. I have given them to you Whatever first ripe fruit is in their land which they bring to the Lord shall be yours Everyone who is clean in your house may eat it Every donated thing in Israel shall be yours Which so it's the harvest season. It's the first fruit offering that goes to the Lord, but who gets to eat it?
The priests the priests. That's right. Good. All right, you want to read the paragraph beginning of 15? Everything that first opens the womb of all flesh which they bring to the Lord whether man or beast shall be yours nevertheless the firstborn of man you shall surely redeem and the firstborn of unclean animals you shall redeem and and those redeemed things of devoted things you shall redeem when one month old according to your valuation for five shekels of silver according to the shekel of the sanctuary which is 20 giras but the first born of a cow the first born of a sheep or the first born of a goat you shall not redeem They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar and burn their fat as an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma to the Lord. And their flesh shall be yours just as the way. Rest and the right that are yours. OK, so there's this idea of the first born, right? And so if somebody has a cow. The cow has her first calf. the family has to go take that to the Lord. But what's the family allowed to do or the priest allowed to do? Redeem it. Redeem it, right? They're able to pay for it.
But only for the pig and the Maybe a horse or something like that, right? Horse or donkey, right? They didn't really eat pigs because they were unclean. Yeah, right. But what animals were not allowed to be redeemed? Cows, cows and sheep and sheep and goats, right? They're not allowed to be redeemed. Those have those are totally to the Lord. They get burned up, right? They have to be slaughtered. But even then, what do they get to do? They get to eat it, right? So let's go ahead and read 19.
All the heave offerings of the holy things which the children of Israel offer to the Lord I have given to you and your sons and daughters with you as an ordinance forever. It is a covenant of salt before the Lord with you and your descendants with you. It's this idea of a covenant of salt, right? Is that there was salt preserving put on it, right? Because when you grill meats, what do you put on them? Salt. Well, salt has more significance than just a seasoning, right? It does taste good. But this actually has a significance, right? This is enduring. It's going to keep on going. Covenant, right?
So it was a priest good You want to read and finish this off verse 20 and the Lord said Aaron you shall have no inheritance in their land Nor shall you have any portion among them? I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel All right, so he told them all the things they get to have right all the barbecue all the grilled meats But what are they not allowed to have? land yeah why not why don't they get that inheritance um because they get the lord yeah they get the lord just like the pharisees are they getting are they getting cheaped out because they get the lord no are they getting shortchanged nope they get a greater blessing that's right it's a special blessing right now does everybody get this blessing No, just Levites, right?
Just the priests. Specifically, just the priests, right? But the Levites also, in a sense. So, mom comes home in a little bit and she says, Debra, what did you learn in coffee and devotions? What do you say? Every time somebody offered something to the Lord, the priests would have a barbecue. Okay, all right, good. All right. What do you think this calls us to do?
To realize that the Lord is our portion. Yeah, the Lord's our portion. Hot diggity dog, that was great. Yeah, the Lord is our portion, right? The Lord is our reward. The Lord's our inheritance, right? When we get to go to heaven, And what's the best thing about going to heaven? Seeing Jesus. That's right. We get Jesus. Right? Do we get the streets of gold? Is that what we're excited about? No. Do we get the fruit of the tree that's on both sides of the river? Is that what we're excited about in heaven? What are we excited about in heaven?
Seeing Jesus. That's right. We get the Lord. Hey. Is it exciting to you at all? Yeah. Are you ready to pray? It's kind of been a long one, huh? Yeah. Let's go ahead and pray. By the way, thank you so much for the blessing of you. You are our inheritance and our very great reward. Lord, we pray that we would be satisfied in you, that we would seek to glorify you and love you. Please, Lord, lead us and love us. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
