Obey the King of Kings

Hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions this morning. We are at Jeremiah chapter 22 24 to the end of the chapter and so let's have some coffee. Okay. I'll get the God's Word Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for your word. And we pray that as we read your word, your Holy Spirit would instruct us and lead us. Help us, God, to understand, believe, and live. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, ready? Jeremiah, chapter 22. How about I read the first part and then you read the second part?
As I live, says the Lord, though Cunananiah That's Jehoiakim. Though Conaniah, the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, were the signet on my right hand. Yet I would pluck you off, and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear, the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and the hand of the Chaldeans. So I will cast you out, and your mother who bore you into another country where you were not born and there you shall die. You reading with me? Alright, let's keep going.
But to the land to which they desire to return they shall not return. Is this when Ohanaia and a despised broke her back? No, no, no. Come on. Put your finger there. You can do it. I can't. Oh, well, read that first word first. Broken. Idle. a vessel in which is a pleasure not a pleasure no pleasure why are they cast out here and his descendants and cast into the land slow down and cast into a land which they do not know You remember the next one? I think you can. Oh, oh, oh, hear the word of the Lord. Oh, you're doing great. Keep going. This is the word. Write the man. Slow down. Put your finger. Slow down. You can do it, buddy. You're doing great.
Write this man down as a child. Not as a child. As. Child. Child. Childless. A man who shall not possess. Raw. No, see, you guessed instead of read. No, no, no. Go back, go slow. Prosper. Yeah, a man who shall not prosper. In his days for none. None. For his days. None, no, no. For, for none. For none of his descendants shall prosper or sit among the throne of David. And who only... Who, compound word.
Anymore. Anymore. What's this? Anymore. Anymore. Introduce. Dude. You just read three verses in a row. All right, so, but now we have to ask ourselves, A. What is this about B? What's the best for us to summary and C, what do we hope? So what was this about, this whole thing about Jeconiah?
I'm sorry, not Jeconiah, Jehoiachin. He's not going to prosper. No, he's not going to prosper. Instead, he's going to go where? To Obam. He does not know. Yeah, exile, right? God's gonna give him over to his enemy, King Nebuchadnezzar. He's not gonna prosper in his days. None of his descendants will prosper sitting on the throne of David and ruling anymore in Judah. Oh, earth, earth, earth, hear the words of the Lord. Man, this is a happy passage, huh? I'm not so happy. No, it's pretty hard, huh? Why is this happening? Because they don't obey God. Yeah, the people, well, they didn't keep faith with the Lord, did they? They went after idols, they wouldn't listen to the Lord. Yeah, and so the Lord eventually goes, okay, no more. And he brings judgment on them because of that.
So what do you think is the best verse to summarize this section? First 30 yeah, I think verse 30 is good. I would probably underline verse 21 or sorry verse 25 and 26 But 30 says it in poetic way, so that's fine. Maybe you would underline something different. That's fine What about seek calling? What do you think this calls?
You to do or how does this point us to Jesus Christ? um to Obedient. Do you think this is all about obedience, obedience, obedience? You must obey, you must obey. Where does obedience come from? God. What do you mean obedience comes from God? What does that mean? Because Jesus was obedient to him. He died on the cross. So obedience comes from God because Jesus was obedient. So what's that got to do with you?
Well, I can try to be obedient with the Ten Commandments. Obey your father, mother, so your days shall go good. Alright, so here's my issue. Do you always obey me? No, but Jesus died on the cross for us. Okay, so God accepts you because of your obedience. You can try to do the Ten Commandments. So God accepts you because of your obedience? Because you believe in Him. So here's the fun news, ready? God accepts you because of Jesus' obedience.
Full and complete pardon. Justified by Jesus. Hey, that's a huge blessing. So the Ten Commandments are a helpful guide, a helpful rule for faith and life. They help direct us and teach us and lead us. But we're not made right because we obey God's law. But you're right in pointing to Jesus because He perfectly obeyed all of those.
And so even though Even though this guy, that you had a hard time pronouncing his name... Kunia. Even though Kunia was going to die. Because he wasn't following the Lord. Who did follow the Lord perfectly? Jesus. Jesus, right? Jesus. It says here that Conniah wouldn't have anyone to sit on the throne of David anymore. But guess who was of that family and did sit on that throne eventually? Jesus. I think that's where this points us to Jesus Christ. Because the Lion of the tribe of Judah has come. The one who has conquered sin and death, who kept the law perfectly, is our Lamb of Atonement.
Don't pay for it. Don't pay for it. Not your little brother. Your little brother's name is Chico, but no, not him. Some are way better than him. Yep. So... He doesn't bite, though. Yeah. Yeah, we gotta work on his biting face to get him out of that. But anyways, I think this just points us to Jesus Christ that way, right?
We do have a perfect King who perfectly protects us and has done everything necessary for us to live with God forever. And so, because we have a perfect King... We have a perfect God. We have a perfect God. We have a perfect God. Yeah, so we can behave perfectly, right? But we can try. Not because that perfect obedience is what gets us into heaven, but because Jesus Christ paid for all of our sins. All right, you ready to pray? You want to pray for us this morning to close? You can. Okay.
God, thank you so much for the blessing that you have given us of your Holy Spirit and for caring for us. Lord, we thank you for giving us our King, Jesus Christ, who sits on the throne forever. and who will someday judge the world with equity. Lord, we thank you that you do take sin seriously. You take it so seriously that you poured out your wrath upon your son on the cross of Calvary. And Lord, you defeated sin and death by rising again from the dead for our justification. And so God, we thank you for giving us our great High Priest, our King.
And Lord, we pray that we will follow in His ways out of a love for Him. In Jesus' name, Amen. Well, you did not first love Jesus, but Jesus loved you. And because Jesus has loved you and poured out his spirit in your heart, you can cry, Abba, Father. And so may the Father in heaven give you peace and may you walk in his ways.
