Do Not Fear Correction

Well, good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we just got two verses to look at. So we're going to find out, well, is God going to talk about Jeremiah or someone else? So it's kind of a surprising portion and also encouraging. So let's find out what the Lord has for us this morning. Let's have some coffee, we'll pray, and we will get into God's Word. By the way, Debra was saying that she can't be associated with me too closely anymore because I might be a little bit too weird. And she's worried that that would rub off on her reputation.
All right, let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for your word. And God, we pray that as we read your word, that your Holy Spirit would please work in our hearts. Teach us what we ought to learn here. Help us to embrace it, lay it up in our hearts, and practice it in our lives. We pray in Jesus' name, amen.
Go to Jeremiah chapter 46, verses 27 and 28. But do not fear, O my servant Jacob, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For behold, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return. Have rest and be at ease. No one shall make him afraid. Do not fear, O Jacob, my servant, says the Lord, for I am with you. For I will make a complete end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but I will not make a complete end of you. I will rightly correct you, for I will not leave you wholly unpunished. Alright, so God has been saying, like, hey, you want to go down to Egypt to escape the Babylonians, but the Babylonians are coming and I'm punishing Egypt. And then he says, Notice, but do not fear, O my servant Jacob. Jacob's been dead a long time.
What's he mean by this? He's talking about Israel. Yeah, right? He's referring to them by the names of one of the patriarchs, right? Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. So this is Jacob, and he's saying, hey, you're still my covenant people. You're going to go through these hardships, but, and I love this part, but I have not made a complete end of you. I will rightly correct you. What a beautiful promise that he gives to the people who are about to suffer, huh? This isn't for your detriment. All the other nations, they're going to go their way. But you, you're being corrected. You're being turned. You're learning to repent.
I've not forgotten my promises to you. It's a big encouragement to me. I think about my own heart, my own life. I think about how good God is. He corrects me like a good Heavenly Father. Sometimes I'm not the best at doing this with you guys. But God is perfect in this way. So what a blessing, huh? Alright, so what are you going to say this is about? So A, what's this about? That Israel doesn't need to be afraid even though they're going to go through hard troubles. Okay.
You've only got two verses here. Which one are you going to choose as the one you underline? Verse 27 or verse 28? Why not both? Probably actually 28. Yeah, I was going to say 28 too. Because it actually starts the same exact. Yep. 28 is picking it back up and pushing it further. Let's go ahead and talk about C. Colin. How does this apply to you? You're not named Jacob. Your name is Deborah. You're not Old Testament Israel running away and trying to hide in Egypt.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm He's not doing it out of a heart of like He's going to crush us, but if we are in Christ, He's our Heavenly Father.
I remember when I first started realizing that and getting into my heart, reading through the book of Galatians, it's like, hold on, God freely adopted me into His family? Gave me His spirit to cry out, Abba, Father? And then reading in the book of Romans, it's like there is this olive tree and God's engrafted me into the family of Israel. So when he says, oh, Jacob, I'm included in there because he's adopted me into that family, these promises are good for me, too. It's a blessing. We say, yes, we're not Old Testament Israel, but we are of the family of Abraham. We hold to the patriarchs. You ready to pray? Okay.
God, we do thank you that when times are difficult and hard, when things are going miserable and poor in our lives, we can trust you. Lord, like a ray of sunshine breaking through the dense clouds of depression and of disaster in our lives, yet, Lord, we know that You are good. We know that your plans for us are to prosper us and not for our harm. And so we pray that we would not fear.
Give us your spirit to trust you, to walk in your ways. Thank you for proving your love for us in sending your son, Jesus. It's in his name we pray. Amen. Well, may the great shepherd of the sheep watch over your soul and may you not fear, but rest in his love for you. And we'll see you next time. Say bye. Bye.
