A New Order Through Christ

At the back Hebrews chapter 9, Hebrews 9 verses 6 through 10. We're going to continue talking about Jesus being a high priest and how his priesthood is different then. So, good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we're at Hebrews chapter 9 verses 6 through 10 and we're going to be talking about Jesus's high priesthood and the Order of Kizadek and how that's different then. Aaron and the sons. So let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll get together. Coffee?

Thank you for your word. Please help us as we read your word. Father, we pray that your Holy Spirit would please instruct our hearts. God, I confess to you that this morning, today, I've been busy and scatterbrained. Lord, we pray that you would please help us to be able to concentrate, to focus and to be able to learn and live what you told us in Jesus' name. Amen. All right. Hebrews chapter nine, verses six through ten. You want to read? Oh, do you need some glasses? Glasses. All right, so Hebrews 9, 6 through 10.
Starts off with now when these things. Now, when these things had been thus prepared, I always went in the first part of the tabernacle, forming the services, but in the second part of the high Second part, the high priest was born once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself. The holiest of all was made manifest by the first tabernacle. It was symbolic for the present Okay. So we've got three questions. A, what is this? B, And see. All right. So a what is this about?
So it's talking about the high priest and where is he allowed to go once a year? The tabernacle, good. I'm going to pull something up here. Hope will be helpful to us and work on this. Let me. There we go. Helps if you spell things correctly. All right. And then, yeah, if I spell things correctly. Okay. Now, if we go all the way down here, there's going to be an interactive media. So in the tabernacle, so this is the NIV study Bibles notes, right? So here's the bronze or the, the altar, right? Where he would, the high priest would sacrifice. Here's a laver, go through the first veil. And then you have the, uh, the lamp stand, the table for the showbread, the altar of incense, and then the inner veil. So here is the holy place. Mm-hmm. Yeah, isn't that fun? So here's the holy place and then what's this called? The holy of holies now, this is the portion that it's talking about here, right?
Is it saying look with me at verse 6? What is what's it getting that there? Now when these things had been thus prepared the priest always went into the Okay, and so in the first part of the tabernacle, that's where he would perform the regular services. But, verse 7, into the second part. What's that second part called? The Holy of Holies. Good, right. So yeah, so he would go into the Holy of Holies, but there's something that has to happen before he's allowed to go into the Holy of Holies, where the presence of God is. Well, he has to be cleaned. Yeah. Yeah.
Look at verse seven, but the second part, but into the second part, the high priest went once alone, once a year, not without blood. It had to be a sacrifice, right? And he offered this blood sacrifice both for himself and for the people's sins. They had to have their sins cleansed before they were able to go into the presence of God.
Are you tracking along with me here? Okay. So this is the Old Testament background, right? Now, verse eight, this is where things start to pivot and change. Read verse eight again. Okay, so the Holy Spirit was indicating this and what's he indicating? Good, right? Because it was, verse 9, symbolic for the present time.
Well, no, no, they trusted the Lord, right? That this is the way in which they were ushered into the presence of God, right? They had faith in God that this was his way of doing this. And so as long as they were following in faith, right? But the point is all of this was symbolic for a time in which the gifts and sacrifices are offered.
But notice the second part of verse nine, which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience. his sacrifices and cleansing and stuff could never actually make him clean and perfect. Right? Because he had to offer a sacrifice even for himself. Right?
So for Aaron and all his priesthood that would come after him, it was a symbol. It was, it wasn't the whoop and wharf, the substance, the reality of what it was pointing to. And so verse 10, All of this washing and entering in but only with blood once a year. Concerned only with foods and drinks, various washing, and fleshly ordinances. How does this part end?
Oh, what word is it actually? Well, let's have a feeling this actually goes here. Well, yes, if we are reading an English translation. So let's go to we're at Hebrews. That's Hebrews. You're going to make me like really look things up. You're people who are just listening to this, not watching and be like, what in the world is he talking about? All right. So Hebrews chapter nine, verse 10, here's the Greek, right? So everyone's putting the flesh until the time of.
Deal, deal, deal, deal or full set was that is a process, a process leading to a new order viewed as something yet to be realized. Improvement reformation. That's what that's getting at. there was going to be a new order and a new thing coming about, right? So that's what Reformation is. It's not that it's like a total revolution, everything is gone, but it's a taking what was and turning it to what it should be, right? And so that's why they chose Reformation there rather than just a new order, right? Because there is some similarity between the old and the new, but the new is better. Brander or amazing. It's new, renewed, but not like brand new, totally different.
Okay, good. So, wow. It took us a while to be able to understand that. So tell me real quick, A, what is this about? You got to tell your mom in one sentence. Good. Yeah. So there's gotta, I would summarize this. There's a new priesthood with a new order, right? So all the old things were symbols. Now there's a new way. Awesome.
Yeah. Uh, what do you think is the best verse to summarize to get to that idea? Okay. That's fine. Yeah. 10 and nine is fine. I have, I have almost all of it underlined. I have seven and I have the second part of eight and I have the second part of nine. Okay. Let's talk about seek calling.
How does this point us to Jesus Christ? How does this call us to live our lives? What about this? What about the covenant? Does this teach us? Okay, how'd you get there? Oh Cuz I think it could still feel oh, yeah, I just have fun and it could get less and less the more Hmm it oh, yeah, I just Yeah Good. Yeah, I like that. Yeah. So, uh, right. The high priest has to make a sacrifice even for himself. Right. But the washing and the, and the foods and the drinks, right. None of them could actually save him. in and of themselves.
Faith was pointing to what Jesus would do for them, and that faith, that work of Jesus pointed, or worked backwards as well. Because you always say by faith and the work of Jesus, they were just trusting in the work to come, or trusting in the work to be done. So, yeah, I think that that's a great, the trust in Jesus, our high priest, who actually can cleanse our consciences.
All right, do you want to pray or want me to pray? Lord, we thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word. Lord, thank you for the fun time it is for me to get to hang out with Nathan as he's asking more complicated questions, difficult ones that deserve to be answered and looked at. Lord, we pray that you would please grow us in our faith. Lord, we pray that we would trust not just in the signs and the symbols. But thank you so much that you have washed us in the blood of Jesus, that we can be cleansed from our sins.
